From other Olympiads in Informatics Olympiad, this differs in the increased number of tasks that are assigned comparatively short time. Given that at the disposal of each team is only one computer, skills, efficient and well-coordinated team work come to the fore.
The international team championship on programming is rooted in the competition, held at the University of Texas in 1970. Its present appearance took the championship in 1977, when the first final was held in the framework of the ACM conference, and has since been held annually.
The organizer of the Olympic Games is powerful in the computer world organization Association for Computer Machinery (ACM), a competition sponsored in recent years were from IBM and Microsoft. From 1977 to 1989 he participated in the competition mainly high schools teams from the US and Canada. To date, the Olympics turned into a worldwide competition.
