In the globalization context the veterinary service becomes particular important  in the world to ensure effective prevention and control of epidemiological outbreaks of highly dangerous diseases of animals and humans, as well as the sale of products and raw materials of animal origin, and seafood and in the formation of the food safety policy.The World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) considers that the provision of high quality veterinary education is a key component of sustainable development of the national veterinary service, which is a service of global public goods.The OIE has developed a number of program documents aimed at ensuring the harmonization of initial and continuing veterinary education of OIE Member Countries.Currently, OIE supports nine of Twinning educational projects in 18 universities in Europe, Asia and America. The first regional meeting “Kazakhstan’s experience in the implementation of the twinning education in the preparation of veterinary specialists” will be take place in the Kazakh National Agrarian University (KazNAU) on 12-13 October 2016 an initiative of Twinning-partners –  the National Veterinary School of Toulouse (ENVT) and the Kazakh National Agrarian University (KazNAU)The organizers of the meeting are ENVT, KazNAU, VetAgroSup (Lyon National Veterinary School), Ministry of Agriculture, National Agricultural Research and Education Center of Kazakhstan, and the Astana Office of the OIE. The meeting will be participated by official representatives of high veterinary education establishments and delegates of OIE from France and 11 CIS countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan).
Discussed issues include
- analysis of the current situation on veterinary education in the Central Asian region and the CIS, as well as review of the OIE recommendations on the Competencies of graduating veterinarians and the presentation of the OIE Veterinary Education Core Curriculum;
- review of OIE Twinning projects’ experience on initial and continuing veterinary education;
- acquaintance with the recommendations of the OIE Conference on improving the global veterinary education, approved in Bangkok;
- discussion of innovative methods of veterinary education, harmonized at whole world level, and the possibilities of their implementation in the Central Asian region and the CIS.
